Hey John and Ricardo, we recently added these fields to Variant Inventory! We still do not support dimensional shipping natively, but we do offer an integration with Shipper HQ that will. Also, if you use a separate service to calculate shipping, these fields will also be available via API. We will be updating our API documentation as well.

We need box sizes as an option in the Shipping Settings. Clients can enter the actual box sizes they are using to ship and assign them to items that are not mark "ship individually" Each item will still have the dimensions specified individually but the system will know based on volume when it will break it to the next package. For example if you use a box size 12 x 12 x 6 the volume is 864 cubic inches. If the item itself measures 6 x 6 x 3 the volume is 108 cubic inches. If a client buys (1) item, we still have to ship it in a 12 x 12 x 6 box because that is our box size, so the information sent to FedEx/UPS should include the box dimension and this affects the shipping charges so the shipping charges will be accurate. But now a client can purchase up to (8) units and they will still be shipped in (1) box, because 864/108 = 8 As soon as the purchases 9 or more it will put it in a new box. So items will be properly broken down into the correct number boxes and the shipping charges will always be accurate because if he purchases 9 units the info sent to FedEx/UPS will still be (2) boxes each at 12 x 12 x 6.

Jack, correct me if I am wrong, but I believe this does not change how dimensional shipping works on cart.com stores, it still only sends the dimensions for shipping quotes if the parent product is set to ships separately.  This change just means that if you are using ShipperHQ or the custom shipping api, the dimensions can be set differently for variants and the variant dimensions can be sent to ShipperHQ or the custom shipping api.

We are actually disappointed that we just received a notification that the price for Cart.com will go up next renewal citing improvements of the platform but this case is over 11 years old, other services have better capabilities to calculate the shipping charges accurately, and between this and other open issues with the platform the price increase is not warranted,

Hey Josh, when you have an item that ships separately, we will pass dimensions and actual item weight to the shipping provider who will decided whether to use dimension weight or actual weight. When item does not ship separately, we don't know the actual package size you'll be using so we cannot pass package dimensions, only weight. These fields were necessary to allow third party services to properly solve this pain point around dimensional packing and it's our first step for us to build something native for it.

Ricardo, I'm sorry you feel this way about our new pricing. I'll review your account and email you directly.
