Overview
This article explains how to block website traffic from specific IP addresses, countries, and continents. Blocking can be done through the Active Countries list, the Traffic Firewall, or directly from Visitor Sessions. Additionally, you can review and export visitor session data with country details.
Blocking Traffic
There are three ways to block traffic from a specific country, continent, or IP address:
1. Block Traffic Using the Active Countries List
- Navigate to Settings > Store Information > Active Countries.
- Select the country or countries you want to block.
- Click More Actions > Block Traffic from Country.
Note: This method blocks all traffic from IP addresses associated with the selected country.
2. Block Traffic Using the Traffic Firewall
- Navigate to Settings > Security > Traffic Firewall.
- Click New.
- In the IP Address field, enter:
- A specific IP address (e.g., 12.34.56.78).
- A wildcard range (e.g., 12.34.56.*).
- A CIDR notation range (e.g., 12.34.56.0/24).
- Alternatively, select a Country or Continent from the dropdown lists.
- Enter a Description to identify the rule.
- Set the Priority value (lower values are processed first).
- In the Action dropdown, select Deny.
- Click Save to apply the block.
3. Block Traffic Directly from Visitor Sessions
- Navigate to Reports > Visitor Sessions.
- Select one or more visitor sessions from the list.
- Click More Actions and choose one of the following:
- Block IP Address – Blocks a specific IP address.
- Block Country – Blocks all traffic from the visitor’s country.
- Block Continent – Blocks all traffic from the visitor’s continent.
Managing the Traffic Firewall
Blocked traffic entries are recorded in the Traffic Firewall. You can manage these entries as follows:
- Navigate to Settings > Security > Traffic Firewall.
- To edit or remove an entry:
- Locate the country, continent, or IP in the list.
- Click Edit to modify the settings or Delete to remove the restriction.
Reviewing Visitor Traffic by Country
You can review visitor session data to monitor traffic from specific countries:
- Navigate to Reports > Visitor Sessions.
- The Visitor Sessions page will display a list of recent sessions.
- To add Continent and Country columns:
- Click the layout options (columns icon) in the top-right corner.
- Select Edit Current Layout or Create New Layout.
- From the available columns, check Continent and Country.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
- Once these columns are visible, use the filters to sort sessions by country, region, or timeframe.
Exporting Visitor Data
To export filtered visitor session data for analysis:
- Apply the desired filters to display specific visitor sessions.
- Click the cloud icon at the top of the grid.
- Select the preferred export format (CSV or Excel).
- Save the file for further analysis or sharing.
Summary: The Traffic Firewall provides multiple ways to block traffic, including by IP address, country, or continent. These blocks can be added from the Active Countries list, Traffic Firewall settings, or Visitor Sessions. Reviewing visitor data can help you analyze traffic trends and improve site security.
