POS integration
Add a POS integration that allows the use of a card reader that connects directly to an order entry or the Virtual Terminal page within our AmeriCommerce store. Need the ability to accept a card in person other than manually entering the card data into an online order (not compliant) and be able to print a transaction receipt for the customer.

Also, please enhance the product add field so that it searches more fields so there are more options for utilizing barcode scanners.

I'd love to see card reader integration!!

@richard, can you elaborate on your need for product fields? We have a upc, gtin, mfgid field and custom fields, is there another field you'd need to see for your workflows? We should probably break this out to a separate request since that's much smaller scope to deliver on and not really tied to the POS, but I'd love to get your first answer here and then we will go break it out onto its own feature request item.
PS, we like the POS idea too. This isn't ideal, but just wanted to mention that you can use a usb card swiper for when you're entering the card number into the virtual terminal just to make it a little faster. However, we agree, POS support is a nice request.

"you can use a usb card swiper for when you're entering the card number into the virtual terminal"
Can you explain or point to documentation?
Does this enter the card number, exp date, and ccv code when you're on the order page? I don't understand your reference to "virtual terminal" otherwise (I'm only aware of a "virtual terminal" in my authorize.net account - and that is too many steps to make this worthwhile)0 -
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it only captures the card number. It just keeps you from having to worry about typing those error prone 16 digits in. The reader just acts much like a keyboard and 'writes' the number into the credit card field directly (or whatever field or app you have open at the time). There's not many smarts to it, just a small way to reduce a bit of work when you have the card handy.
They make better ones, but this is cheap if you just want to test it out. https://www.amazon.com/MSR90-Magnetic-Credit-Reader-Deftun/dp/B01DUB4GVO/
As for "Virtual Terminal", that's just a way to say "Enter card information through a website or admin over a web browser". A "terminal" is the machine you see on counters at stores, so a "virtual terminal" is a digital version of that. Many gateways (who processes your payments) and even AmeriCommerce provide a way to enter your card info in and charge it via the admin. You can access ours under the Orders Menu. It creates an order and payment for you to track in with your normal ecommerce orders. We wanted to have one so you didn't have to jump to yet another login experience just to take a quick payment.
Hope this helps! Again, a good POS integration is even better, this is just a stopgap idea!

Ok I see that now. Never used it - and can't find anything in the KB. Will the virtual terminal allow us to enter payment for a cart order that's awaiting payment? I see a place to enter order number, so I guess so, but I need to know how this works before I ask my CSR to use it.
What I need is a way to swipe a card when a customer comes in to pick up his order. It's ridiculous that we have to type the cc info into the order page when we have the card in hand. Being able to get the card number is a tiny step in the right direction, but not enough.

I'm still waiting for POS ... if I understand the current function of adding a card reader, it still appears to the gateway as if we had typed the card info, so it still counts as a "card not present" with higher rates than if we had a POS.

A POS interface would be nice. We do get some walk ins. It would be nice they can process the order through the website.

This would be an important feature to have in 2024 with customers increasing having brick and mortar as well as online sales. For us, it would be invaluble to the tradeshows we attend and take orders at. Most other major e-commerce players have integrations with Square, Zettle (Paypal) or Clover (FirstData). I sure would like to see Storefront join the list.

More basically, how can we swipe/tap/dip cards for orders we create through the admin portal without keying card information in?
