Date Format for EMAIL template

trying to insert ##ORDERDATE## into an email template.

I want it formatted mm/dd/yyyy

merge code ##ORDERDATE## brings in time stamp too and I want to strip it off.

##ORDERDATE[mm/DD/yyyy]## does not do the trick....

  This should be possible with the new release of date merges and formatters for most dates displayed on the sites and in emails.  I believe the format you would want would be ##ORDERDATE[MM/dd/yyyy]##

  Bump - would love to see the ability to strip the timestamp off any date fields (native or custom)

  The new date merges ##ORDERDATE[yyyy]## (etc) works as expected for modifying dates, but the formatting still doesn't seem to work with custom fields (set to be date fields) unfortunately
