Allow 3rd party vendors to write integrations?

  • Jack Cravy

It's definitely something we've considered and it's still on our radar as a possibility in the future. In order to allow third parties to do this would require a large amount of investment from the engineering and product teams and there's obviously no guarantees that we'd get these companies to build them. Then we'd have to hope they'd maintain them and keep them secure. On the other hand, it would allow the product to innovate faster than what we could do on our own.

The list for pros and cons is a mile long but the lack of apps needed with our platform is honestly still one of the largest reasons new merchants we onboard choose us. Our REST API allows most companies to integrate if they want to. See ShippingEasy or GoDataFeed as an example. If a company wants to build an integration, 9 times out of 10 they can.

If we see customers ask for a feature and it's something lots of users can use (like Zapier, QBO, Shipper HQ and more coming this year), we'll usually build it because it's what our customers want. This is why we're introducing a new feature voting section very soon that will hopefully invite more feature requests and foster more conversations like this. At the end of the day, we want to build what our customers say they want - we just need more voices like you guys! Keep it coming!

    I agree completely.
