FEATURE: Remote Carting Expanded, New Client-Side Javascript API and Rich Snippets
One of the unique features AmeriCommerce customers love is the ability to use “remote carting” to add store functionality to any website on any platform using add to cart urls and posts. This is awesome, and customers love it!
But wouldn’t it be nice to snag the cart contents for display directly on your remote website on Wordpress/Joomla/Drupal/Tumblr/etc? Wouldn’t it be great to grab a product’s price or description right out of the AmeriCommerce system and display it on your remote site? Maybe a list of products in a category? AmeriCommerce would no longer have to be your entire site, you could use it for just the features and pages you want.
We’re now working on a client-side (aka JavaScript) API that can be integrated anywhere/everywhere you want! Have an existing blog or wordpress site that you want to sell from? Done! Affiliates who want to sell your products directly from their site? Done! Anything you could possibly want in the entire universe? Well, not yet… ;)
With this new feature, you’re literally able to place cart and product information on ANY website running ANY platform with a simple snippet of code that we generate for you. This built-in tool will provide numerous examples that can be used as the building blocks to learning the JavaScript API as well as larger, more complex web pages. Many of these snippets can be taken as-is and placed on an existing site running any platform that allows JavaScript.
How cool is that?!? Here’s a little more detail for you…
With this secure JavaScript cart, any site containing a code snippet from the API will be able to safely retrieve public cart and catalog information from AmeriCommerce. The information will be not only displayable, but interactive. This means that your remote site can allow customers to view products as well as add them to, and remove them from the cart. Moreover, these changes will all happen instantaneously (see Demo Video Below)
The only time the customer actually leaves the site and goes to your AmeriCommerce store is upon final checkout.
Powerful!
Here are the currently supported methods, with many more on their way:
AC.cart.get – to grab cart contents for display and manipulation
AC.cart.add
AC.cart.update
AC.cart.remove
AC.cart.clear
AC.Batch for performing batches of the above actions
Here’s a rough demo video to see the power and speed of instant remote cart updating. This is just a basic page on a remote site that is just a static file and not running AmeriCommerce, but does have the AmeriCommerce remote carting snippet code installed to interact with the cart values. The left side of the video is an example of where the customers would add to the cart and the right side is a basic cart display that gets it’s values and totals directly from the AmeriCommerce remote cart being updated.
Note: Your speakers work fine… there is no audio on the video ;)
