Why not just implement a "theming" ability, like modern CMS's (Wordpress, joomla, drupal). It would reduce the amount of tinkering through multiple pages. A wordpress structure may work best as Americommerce could have default files for each page type, ie:Homepage.php, category.php, single.php, etc.. For those who want to go through a "Wizard" or the current admin console can edit these files that way or those who want to upload their own theme can do so without having to mess with all those settings. By "Theming", one can be more sure a site is loaded without table, or has a proper heading structure, and that css styles work globally instead of having to go element by element as it is now.
