When a customer orders widget A and then goes back to order another widget A in the same session and cart, two lines are created instead of just an update in quantity. This makes fulfillment on merchant's end less efficient and a more congested confirmation email.

  We actually had them modify our store code to accommodate this in the interim.

  Hi Amanda, This is actually already how the system works. If the same item is already in the cart, the quantity will simply be updated with the new quantity rather than adding a separate line item. The only time this wouldn't happen is if the item is added multiple times with different variants selected.
