We genuinely apologize for the changes that may not work for some. We are actively working to streamline anything that requires more effort. In our usability tests and device tests the changes made for new admin were a step up for most, not all cases, and we intend to continue improving the experience. We really did try our best to make this as smooth as possible, we learned a lot while doing it too. There were a few losses but most were balanced against the gains in other productivity features like more mass options, faster rendering, consistent interface, multiple device compatibility/mobility and hundreds of more that was put in. The actual speed of pages and the rendering of them in the browser are dramatically faster in every case because the pages are lighter weight and built for speed as evidenced by load time tracking across all customers. We've reached out for specific feedback of what we could make better and faster and welcome and want those ideas. We've already put in dozens of them and intend to keep ramping up the pace of these changes now that we are fully upgraded to the new experience. We left the old admin in place for 9 months longer to ease the transition and we did our best to work everyone's ideas into a workable solution and we continue to iterate and put new speed features in. We need to do a rare thing here and decline the feature request to give an option to keep the old admin because we are not able to maintain multiple distinct interfaces and codebases at the pace we operate. We hope everyone understands that would have security, usability and support ramifications. Thanks everyone for reaching out with your perspectives and ideas. Keep them coming!

i agree with you on this. it takes me so much longer now to do just the simplest things. with a business application software, you should not sacrifice efficiency just to make something look better. the old dashboard was way more efficient and easier to use. i also feel that I have to scroll so much now because everything is so big and spaced out. this need to scroll all the time has reduced efficiency as well.

forgot to mention... too many windows popping up all over the place now too. they just slow down the page and get in the way all the time.

I agree with Craig all they did was try to make the look and feel of the admin better(fail), they did nothing to improve efficiency, my efficiency has actually decreased a great amount. Also I haven't seen any useful new features, as a matter of fact they have taken away/broken some of the best & easiest of the old features. My first 5 minutes on the new admin I found that they took away the 'image mapping' feature, just a simple easy feature that was removed which shouldn't have been. They told me "The feature wasn't used very often. To remove clutter and increase efficiency in the back end, they did remove certain features." My next task in the new admin was to create a horizontal nav bar/link group with dropdown menus, something that was easily executable on the old admin. Has anyone tried setting up a new link group on this admin and successfully gotten your dropdowns to work? The answer is no because it isn't possible as of now to create dropdowns on the new admin. This feature has been completely broken and support hasn't gotten me an answer for almost 2 weeks now. All I've found out about the dropdowns/linkgroups is that they literally 'killed' the link group widget and now you have to use the 'menu' widget. Any existing dropdowns that you had set on your website will still work but any new ones you create have no options to enable dropdowns. Even the product editor got worse, now you literally have to click 'save' after you edit any tab. I have barely been able to work on the new admin because i'm so disappointed with the changes. Whenever I do use the new admin i constantly find myself looking at the 'old admin to new admin map' which barely helps. I was using the old admin for a few years and felt like i could've worked for the support team because i knew everything about the old admin.

I was pointed over here from the AmeriCommerce Power User Community on Google+ (https://plus.google.com/u/1/114593670414027505127/posts/C6foixrmmUu) We've got more of a discussion going on over there about the new system, you all should join in. From my experience, often times the issues encountered after the migration to the new platform are a result of it being ‘different’. Things may not work exactly the way they did in the previous versions, which causes people to get frustrated and make mistakes. Since first starting to use the new interface, I have done at least a dozen product imports incorrectly, as the new import interface is different and the system defaults imports to “category” import. There are some other intricacies that took me a little time to adjust to, and having used AmeriCommerce through all of its previous renditions for years, I was certainly acclimated to the “way it used to be”. Working with clients on both of the versions, I can without reservation say that the new admin system is FAR better in my opinion. • The load times are faster. Undoubtedly faster. A LOT faster. I see this everyday as I work in both interfaces on various client websites. I dread working in the old system. • It takes less steps to do certain functions, especially importing data (and especially when you choose the right import type, per my earlier problems). • The theme system has been so dramatically improved, modifications are easier to manage with drag and drop widgets, better (and EASIER) control of css, and more. John is the only person who has expressed any issues with the new theme system to me. I have yet to hear any negative feedback directly, and when I ask my clients who have made the upgrade I have only received positive feedback on the new system. I've since taken a look in the feature voting to see what +Boat Outfitters was talking about. There seem to be a couple of unhappy campers there. I DO agree with Samo's comment (and had previously opened up a support request about this) that the Browse By Category function SHOULD allow for dropdowns of subcategories. I do not like that I have to define each top level category as a Menu option in the menu widget in order to get it to dropdown/flyout to sub categories. The browse by category widget should allow this by default. I was a bit annoyed with all of the ‘help’ screens too, which is what I am assuming Craig is referring to. The only other ‘popup’ that I am aware of would be job progress indicators. In this case, I think that change is good, and once you embrace it and learn the nuances of the new system you will not look back. I know I won’t ….

** Update - I failed to mention that AC took some of my criticisms during the beta testing phase and addressed some of the problems that I had mentioned in my earlier post... most importantly (for me) they changed how the imports defaulted to categories. Yay! ;)

Using new with one customer, and old with another. Also not really happy with the user interface on the new admin. All those sliding windows seem to take up too much screen space and the navigation seems less obvious (too much cool factor, to little practical application). I assume there is no going back, but hopefully the interface designers will rethink some of the methods going forward and bring it back toward a more standard interface.

The live design editor, or lack of is a major setback...

The entire 'content editor' in live design mode is broken. it used to not save the changes which is obviously a problem but now when i click 'edit' no content even shows up. And the entire 'design editor' in live design mode is now useless. The AC team told me that we will need to find and edit the individual CSS files for every widget or within the global CSS file. This makes a simple 10 second change such as increasing the height of the left column into minutes of extra work. This whole thing is unreal to me.

Google usually allows classic or new, I agree that this is a good feature to offer but I'm not familiar with the old admin. I like the new version way better than Volusion, Shopify and BigCommerce. I write a blog called TopShoppingCarts.com and try to get people to switch to AmeriCommerce so we can help this cart become the #1 platform in the world... or at least in America!

I was on the old admin for over a year and although the new admin brought some frustrations at first (like most changes do), I love it now and wouldn't dream of going back. It takes some time to learn but it's no different than when an new version of Windows comes out on your PC. I recommend giving it a fair chance (30 days minimum) before jumping ship!

Sean I do agree with you that after some time I got used to the changes and am starting to see the advantages of the new admin which I would say are these: speed (it is extremely faster than the old admin) efficiency (the layout is better, certain areas save the last thing you were using, etc.) However these are the features that were lost which still have me frustrated: Design Tab in Live Design Mode: used to be able to select anything on the screen and change it right there, you could apply your changes before saving to see what they would look like. For example if i wanted to increase the height of my left column widget on the home page i could just click it and change the height, now i have to find the specific area in the CSS to change that. Table Formatting: there are no options to easily format tables anymore. everything from borders to cell sizes has to be edited in the CSS files. I have to use dreamweaver to make my table formatting easy. Image Mapping: this feature is gone, just another thing that i have to do outside of americommerce Product Editor: Having to click the save button on each tab is not necessary. Widgets Tab in Live Design Mode: On several pages of my website you can't select certain widgets because they are hidden behind other widgets and things on the page. I have to find the widget in the admin to edit them. If simple features like that were still active and the live design mode was how it used to be i would be loving the new admin. The biggest problem is losing the live design mode options as it takes so much extra time to do things that used to be simple.

Ah yes...I do agree having to click save before switching between tabs on the product editor is very annoying. I wish they could fix that! I haven't had any of the issues on the live design because I've never used it. Before coming to AC, I was used to using CSS/HTML anyway so I've never even attempted the live design feature. I'm glad to hear you are at least getting used to some of the new features!

I'm learning the new admin and some features I do really like. But I have one huge gripe...inputting inventory for products with multiple variants is a huge PAIN. It used to be very fast and simple. Now it's slow and time-consuming. When I contacted AC about this, their response was to export the inventory, make changes, and import. That's the most inefficient thing I've ever heard, but I tried it anyway. Miserable failure. This one issue is so huge to us that we're currently shopping for a new cart. We have over 200 products, ALL with multiple variants for size and color. If anyone has a workaround for this, please let me know!
