Enabling Google Analytics 4 on Storefront
Overview
Google Analytics is a web analytics service offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. The statistics and tools can be used for search engine optimization (SEO) and marketing analytics. The following article will help you set-up Google Analytics 4 to work with Cart.com.
Enabling Google Analytics 4 on Storefront
To enable Google Analytics 4, you need to set the Integration as Active.
- Go to Storefront > Tools > Apps & Addons > Google Analytics 4
- Click the Integration Active slider near the top of the page to enable Google Analytics 4
- Scroll down to the App Settings panel and add your Google Measurement ID (“G-” ID), look here for instructions on how to find your “G-” ID.
- Click Save
When enabled you can view the Google tag ID added to your Order Confirmation page by right clicking the page and selecting “View Page Source”.
Results show within 24hrs or sooner depending on the processing time at Google. The generation of the order data on our side happens as soon as the script is placed and new orders are placed.
Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking
When you enable Google Analytics you also have the option to enable Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking. If you enable Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking you also get the option to Log Product Impressions on Product Listing Pages and Widgets, and Log Product Link Clicks.
The screenshot above shows the Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking options enabled, and they can be enabled or disabled by clicking on the options.
Enable Enhanced Ecommerce Tracking
This will enable Enhanced Ecommerce tracking code to be rendered on page and populate data into Google Analytics Enhanced measurement reporting.
In order to take advantage of this reporting you must turn on "Enhanced measurement" inside of Google Analytics. This setting is found in the Google Analytics Admin section, within your web stream details. You can find more information on how to enable this feature here.
You can optionally enable Product Listing impressions and Product Click tracking as well.
Log Product Impressions on Product Listing Pages/Widgets
Enabling this setting will log impressions of product views on all Product Listing pages as well as Product Display and Carousel widgets.
Log Product Link Clicks
When enabled, this will send a click event to Google Analytics on product links from Product Listing pages and Product Display/Carousel widgets.
This will modify normal click behavior in order to send Google Analytics the click event. This means middle clicking will no longer work and may add a slight delay to page navigation.
In order to use this the layout must be using the standard control merge for the item link.
- For Listing pages: $$PRODUCTLINK$$, $$PRODUCTTHUMBNAIL$$
- For Widgets: $$PRODUCTNAME$$, $$PHOTOWITHLINK$$
- Manual Links: If using a manually built link, the merge code $$GAPRODUCTONCLICK$$ needs to be added inside the <a> tag.
Customize Brand
By default the brand is populated from the Manufacturer name. You can customize this field by using static text or product merge codes, such as ##ITEMNR##, ##PRODUCTCUSTOMFIELD[xxxx]##
Leave this field blank to have it use the default.
