Overview
This article explains how to connect to the Cart.com file system via SFTP for bulk file uploads and downloads, as well as how to use the built-in File Manager for smaller file operations.
Cart.com supports mass file upload and download via SFTP. To connect your site over SFTP you’ll need the following:
- An SFTP Client
- SFTP Credentials
If you don't already have an SFTP client installed, there are several free options available.
Each has its own interface and features. Please check out their websites for configuration and use details.
The following have been tested and confirmed to work with our FTP server:
- FileZilla
- WinSCP
- Bitvise SSH client
- CoreFTP (build 2.2 (x64)
Once you have an SFTP client, SFTP credentials can be obtained by submitting a support ticket.
SFTP Client Configuration
Use the following settings with your SFTP client:
- Server Type: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)
- Host: ftp.americommerce.com
- Port: 22
- Username and Password: These are separate from your Admin login. SFTP credentials can be requested by submitting a support ticket.
Under your client’s Transfer settings, if there is an option to limit the number of simultaneous connections, please limit it to 2.
Note: Only one person should be logged into your FTP account at a time.
Once configured, a successful connection will display your site’s file system directories.
Troubleshooting Connection Errors
If you receive timeout errors or messages saying the server failed to respond, increase the server timeout setting to 180 seconds or disable timeout temporarily.
Authentication errors may indicate incorrect username or password. Double-check your credentials and configuration settings.
Our previous FTP Server certificate lasted for a year each time it renewed, but our new certificate is from a different provider, and is valid for 90 days at which time it will renew.
When it renews the host key changes and will require your FTP to accept the new key.
If you are having issues where it says your connection failed, before it tries the username and password, you may need to delete a older, saved SSH key.
Consult with your applications provider on how to do this.
The server should trigger a prompt in your client to accept the new key when you try to log in.
If issues persist, please contact our support team.
Note: Please provide the name of the FTP client you are using, as well as screenshots of both the error and your connection settings to help support assist you faster.
Uploading & Downloading Files through the File Manager
If you're uploading a small number of files, it's often easier to use the File Manager in your admin interface.
Navigate to Storefront > Content > Files to open the File Manager.
To upload, click the settings icon and choose Upload Files Here.
