Overview
Adding multiple languages to your Cart.com built store is simple with the Weglot integration. Whether you’ve decided to go multilingual after launch or if you’re translating your site from day one, Weglot perfectly integrates to ensure the whole of your ecommerce store is available in the language you choose to add to your store.
Create an Account on Weglot
Firstly, you’ll need a Weglot account.
This is where you’ll manage your translations and make specific edits to your translation project.
Once your account is confirmed, you’ll be taken to the account setup page.
Give your project a name and in the ‘Technology’ field, select ‘Other’.
Add Languages
The next step is to enter your domain name, the original language of your Cart.com website, and the new languages you’d like to translate your store into.
Important: if you’ve yet to purchase a domain name and are using a temporary one, use Weglot’s javascript integration instead. When you’ve purchased a domain name you can switch to this integration.
Click ‘Next’.
Create your subdomains
For enhanced multilingual SEO it’s important to create language subdomains, e.g. https://fr.myecommercestore/.
These subdomains will display the translations of your Cart.com store.
For the purposes of this integration, we’ll be using GoDaddy as our domain name provider, however, the process is very similar no matter where you bought your domain name from. Contact support@weglot.com if you need any help or check out other common domain name provider tutorials. |
The next screen in the setup process shows your DNS entries (example for adding French).
Then go to your domain name provider account and to the area where you can manage your DNS.
Add the entries shown on your Weglot dashboard.
The type should be CNAME, the name the 2-letter language code, and the value will be websites.weglot.com.
For example, it will look something like this (if you added French and German to your store):
Click save and then go back to your Weglot Dashboard and ‘Check DNS’ button. Once a green tick has appeared after each of your entries your subdomains are then live! This can take up to 24 hours so don’t be concerned if this doesn’t happen immediately.
Add the Javascript code
The final step adds a language switcher to your Cart.com store so your visitors can switch between the language of their choice.
To do this, go to your Cart.com website dashboard:
- Click on ‘Settings’ > ‘Marketing' > ‘General’
- Go to ‘Miscellaneous’ > ‘Analytics script’
- Copy and paste the JavaScript snippet provided to you on your Weglot account in the setup process
- Click on the blue button, “Save” at the very top right.
