photos on the site aren't working

We are running into a strange problem with our site and wonder if anyone has any advice.  We have prepared a large number of photos in a jpg format and they only display on the category pages as thumbnails.  When you click through to the product page the same photo doesn't show - just the x icon where the photo should be.

Originally we built a few as GIF's, but decided to stay with the JPG's because it seemed a more accepted format now.  Problem is, we can't get them to work.  We've gone back to the original raw camera data, stripped backgrounds, tweaked them, and then exported them repeatedly, trying different settings each time they don't work.  After failing repeatedly we go to the same "massaged" photo, export it once as a GIF and it works perfectly.

All the photos are 400 x 400 pixels, no matter the format.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

We use jpegs throughout our site with no problems.  The same picture is used for both the thumbnail on the catalog pages and the main photo on the primary page.  We've never had to switch to a gif.  We're using most of the setting from right "out of the box" in a default template.

Sorry we can't be more helpful.  It is probably a configuration setting on the detail page.  I found the knowledge base articles on photos pretty helpful and just copied some of the suggestions from there.  You might try that if you haven't already.

There are some great Knowledgebase articles over imaging, however for fast help I definitely think you should let support help you out by submitting a ticket.  They are more than happy to help you get it setup.

I am a big fan of our image resizer, basically you would just use 1 large image (whatever standard size) of the product and it takes it from there, it will make all of your thumbnails on the fly in each place you need them.  If you change your mind on the size, no problem it just dynamically resizes everything from the larger image.  It's lossless resizing too so they look MUCH better than HTML resizing where you just put a fixed height/width on the image.

Here's some articles for quick reference now though:

Submit a support ticket and they'll fix you up immediately.
