I checked the Knowledgebase and it says for Hot Sellers:

Hot Items based on total sales of an item.  There is no override

Yet, instead of displaying our top selling item, it displays #2, #3, #4, and #7 (I show four items).

 Is the issue that the module is exclusive? Our #1 selling item is a spotlight item. However, while our #5 item is a spotlight item our #6 is not.
