Paypal Website Payment Pro vs other solutions

    Hi everybody,

I am about to decide what payment solution to use and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience using Website Payment Pro (with Americommerce or not), and whether there is any reason NOT to go with Paypal's Merchant/Gateway solution?

At this stage (new store) and with my current needs (more sales from Europe than the U.S.) it looks like it would be the most straightforward thing to implement.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Direct Payments (WPP) is an easy way to support credit card payments on your store, without having to get an Internet Merchant Account through your bank.

I'm thrilled with PayPal Website Payment Pro and virtual terminal. I do recommend that you opt for the PayPal Express checkout instead of regular PayPal. PayPal Express works much better than the old traditional PayPal.

I went ahead and got a Go-Daddy Secure Certificate to work with PayPal Website Payment Pro. The certificate allows for a seamless transition, without it your customer will leave your domain to enter PayPal's. There are a lot of people out there that have their browsers set to notify them when a specific domain takes them to another. That warning gives the appearance of the possibility of fraud, which is BS, but the browser will do that. Most buyers will not understand what that means, and if they have something like Compete, or McAfee, that warning will most likely kill your sale. The certificate prevents that from happening, this is why I got a certificate for each website.  I think I paid $80 for the certificate.

We are using PayPal Website Payments Pro with AC right now and it's been working out great.

When referring to the Go-Daddy secure certificate setup, did you mean to say you had that setup with PayPal Express Checkout? PWPP is fully integrated and doesn't take the customer away from AC at all. But PEC would take them to PayPal to login.

We had the PayPal option setup until a few weeks ago, but so many customers were not noticing they had to click on the post-checkout page link themselves in order to complete the payment at PayPal by logging in, etc. I disabled that since we were losing sales from customers who didn't want to fulfill the order after forgetting to finalize payment. I didn't realize that PP express checkout would probably work better.

Re: Paypal Website Payment Pro vs other solutions

I have no idea why that extra page is there. That is a recent and new thing that came up in the last 3 or 5 months. The good news is that if you use PayPal Express the extra page goes away. I had several customers who never completed the orders as well. When this first came up it got me completely off guard. I shipped the order, and it had not been paid for. There are times when I get really busy here, I run the business solo, so things can get missed. I am especially watchful now with all orders, which definitely does slow down my order processing because I can't process from my Blackberry, in addition I had to stop my drop ship warehouses from automatically sending out emails to my drop shippers. I just don't trust using the automatic notifications or automatic anythings anymore, it could be a potential disaster for me, I have some products that cost over $2000 on my website, so I won't take any risks with something going wrong. I rather take on the extra hours and keep it safe.

I had to have the GoDaddy secure certificate for the credit card payments only not PayPal or Google Checkout. If you do not have the certificate, it does re-direct, unless it was changed in the last year. I did not want the re-direct because some of the security features on the new browsers raise a red flag as possible phishing, scam, etc. A lot of people will click out of there if a message like that comes up. It's best to avoid such messages.
