What is breakout shipping?

Breakout shipping will allow you have more that than one shipping option selection on the cart page, and one page checkouts. When there are items added to the cart that do share one or more shipping methods.

When to use it?

Breakout shipping is used when items are sold that do not share shipping provide. For example, you have items that must be shipped over night, and you have item that must be shipped ground. If one of each of these items were added to the cart, the customer would be given as shipping method, because there is no shipping method that these two item share.

How do I set it up?

Via the product editor open a product for editing Catalog > Edit Catalog and Categories. Then navigate to the product you need to set break out shipping for. Then click the ‘Shipping’ tab.

Here you will check the box “Break out shipping’ and you will enter the ‘Classification Code’ this code is free form text field that you will create. All products that share the same Classification code will have the same shipping options.

Using the example above:

For the Items you need to have ship Ground: You will check the ‘Break out shipping’ option and Set them all to have the same classification code.

For the Items you need to have shipped over night: You will check the ‘Break out shipping’ option and Set them all to have the same classification code, which will be a different code.

Once the setting are in place you would need to check either the ‘Additional’ or ‘Flat Rate’ option (which ever meets your particular need)

In our example we use ‘Additional’ and will turn off all other shipping methods except for the one we want this item use. In the screen shot below you will see the ‘Additional’ radio box selected. The methods with the red boxes are not available (turned off) the green boxes will be displayed.

Is there a way to change the font color for this Classification Code, so that when it shows up in the cart information, the customer is more easily able to see it? Thanks! :)
