Applying Coupons to Your Site

A coupon is a certificate given to a customer that is redeemable for a gift or discount. By giving out coupons, you allow the coupon holder to take advantage of a special offer. Most online coupons are sent through email campaigns and are redeemable during checkout.  Americommerce allows you to set up an wide variety of coupons and other such discounts. Before looking into activating coupons, you should read our topic on how AmeriCommerce applies discount methods.

The first step is to check the Accept Coupons box as seen above. This is found under Stores > [Store Name] > Store Settings near the bottom the the Store Information section. Once you save this change, the coupon code box will appear as follows:

Next, open your Discount Methods through Global Settings > Discount Methods. From here there you can create methods for Dollar Off or Percent Off coupons.

Creating a Coupon

1. Name your method as you want it to appear in the shopper's cart.
2. Check Method is Active if you want it currently applied.
3. Select either "dollars" or "percent" from the middle of the Discount row. Enter the amount of the discount and specify whether that amount will come off the subtotal or the shipping.
4. Click Update Method.
5. Create a New Rule to use the coupon "If coupon code is equal to" and enter the code value.
6. Click Add Rule then Update Method to reflect your changes.
